Concrete foundations and helical piles
Everything starts with the foundation. Nuvem designs and pours concrete foundations, installs helical piles and repairs existing foundations, from rocky Portneuf to the slopes of Charlevoix.
The right foundation for the right ground
In Quebec a foundation must reach below the frost line, resist heaving and shed water. But the right choice depends on the soil: shallow bedrock in Stoneham or Lac-Beauport, clay in the Portneuf lowlands, steep slopes in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, a high water table near the river. We start with a soil assessment and, when the project calls for it, a geotechnical study.
Poured concrete foundations
Formed and poured footings and walls, slab on grade, full basement or crawl space: we handle excavation, formwork, rebar, pouring, French drain, waterproofing and backfill. It's the choice for new homes with a finished basement and for extensions that continue an existing basement.
Helical piles
Steel piles screwed into the ground to the required bearing capacity are installed in a day, with no major excavation and no curing time. They're ideal for cottages, extensions on posts, decks and sunrooms, sloped or hard-to-reach lots and unstable soils. Each pile is installed to the engineer's specified torque and documented.
Repair, stabilization and waterproofing
Cracks, seepage, settling: we diagnose the cause (drainage, frost, soil) before acting — injection, underpinning, stabilization piles, membrane and drain. Read our comparison helical piles vs concrete to choose with confidence.

FAQ
What clients ask us
Helical piles or a concrete foundation?
Concrete for a finished basement or a main home on stable soil; piles for a cottage, an extension, a sloped, rocky or hard-to-reach lot, or to build fast with no curing time.
How deep must a foundation go?
Below the frost line, generally more than 1.5 m in the Quebec City area, deeper in exposed areas. Piles are driven to bearing capacity, often deeper.
Do I need a geotechnical study?
Not always, but it's recommended for new homes, clay or fill soils and slopes. It avoids surprises and guides the foundation choice.
How long before building on the foundation?
On piles: right away. On concrete: a few days of curing before light loads, depending on temperature and mix.
